The 90s’ trend of hair accessories have made a comeback. One of the most used hair accessories are hair clips. They not only tie an outfit together but also add style and polish to hair. Searching for the perfect hair clip can be a bit daunting and we have got you covered. Read the article below for some trendy and inspiring ways to use hair clips.

Types of Hair Clips

1. Claw clips- Claw clips are ideal for casual, everyday buns. They are essentially two-teethed pieces hinged together with a spring. They are the most common ones preferred by women who love sporting a laid-back, hair-up look.

2. French barrette clip- The French barrette clip is a long and slender clip that secures your hair  in an elegant half-up hairstyle. The clip has a metal arm at the back that clicks in for your hair to be neatly gripped at all times. These clips come in different looks with different embellishments.

3. Alligator clips - They get their name from their design that is fashioned to look like an alligator’s mouth. These clips are generally lightweight and you pinch them to spread open the two ends to secure your  hair with them. They are usually used to hold sections of hair up and out of your face.

4. Banana clips - These clips were all the rage in the late 90s and have recently made a comeback with laid back hairdos and simple ponytails becoming the preferred hairstyles today. These clips are shaped like pieces of curved combs fastened together in a strong grip that holds hair uniformly, without compressing it.

5. Clip-on extensions - These add volume to your hair . They clip close to the roots on sectioned hair and are ideal for use if you have a party coming up and need more length and volume.

Here are few tips on how to use hair clips to style your hair:

1. Use a banana clip to evenly spread your hair down a straight line and have it fluffed out and look heavier than it is.

2. Part your hair down the side, hold it back and tuck it under a French barrette clip. You can use a wooden barrette or a pearl white one to suit your outfit.

3. Braid some of your hair down the middle and stop midway. Secure it using a small, embellished French barrette clip. You can even use small beaded pins on your braid to create a romantic hairdo.

4.  If you have shorter hair or bangs, let the hair fall messily on the forehead and hold the rest of it back as you puff it up with a brush. Twirl it around and fasten with an alligator clip.

5. If you have long hair,  hold it back in a ponytail and take the length of the hair up the mouth of the claw clip and then drag the clip up by twirling it around and securing it at the top. Use a mosaic-colored clip in black and gold for a chic look.

6. Simply take your hair back and twist it into a loop and use a big claw clip to hold it up. The chunkier the clip the better it is.

7. With a rat-tail comb, create a deep part on one side of the head. Apply a fancy barrette to the side with less hair. You can also mix and match with multicoloured clips for a fun hairdo.

8. Section the top third of your hair, twist and secure with your favorite snap clip. Let some locks hang loose to frame your features.

9. Hold hair back in a half-up ponytail and twist it tight. Now loosen some hair at the top of the twist and use Bobby pins to hold in place. Now use a decorative clip to put on top. You can also use golden pins to create a half circle pattern of golden rays on your hairdo.

10. Use a hair claw to simply swoop your hair out of your face with a claw clip holding it back for a casual look.

11. Separate a section of your hair at the back by parting hair horizontally up your nape. Place a weft at the center of your head and secure the clips one at a time keeping close to your roots. Repeat for 2 more wefts distanced at about an inch from the first one. Add two more down the side part on the front of your head to boost volume and add bounce to your hair.
