5 DIY Protein-Rich Hair Masks And Their Benefits

Making protein hair masks from ingredients one can easily find at home is easy and quick. All you need is one strong ingredient that is a rich source of protein and a solvent to mix it in. Here are the different types of protein pack for hair:
1. Egg-Yogurt Mask:

Egg or more importantly egg whites as we know is a strong source of proteins, especially keratin, the protein that gives your hair strength and makes it smoother. Yogurt additionally is very rich in probiotics which enhance the health of your hair.
Here is how to make Egg-Yogurt Mask:
- Mix egg whites and yogurt thoroughly in a bowl till it performs a unified paste. (use egg yolks only if your hair very dry or damaged)
- Apply the mixture to your hair and leave it on for 25-30 minutes.
- Rinse the pack out with cool water and then shampoo and condition as usual.
2. Avocado-Coconut Milk Mask:

Coconut milk is known to be a rich source of protein whereas avocados contain Vitamin A, C and E. Combined together, this mixture can be very important in enhancing the health of your hair by boosting the production of collagen and aiding hair growth. Adding olive oil to this mix will condition your hair and make it shiny.
Here is how to make Avocado-Coconut Milk Mask at home:
- Mash 1 avocado till there are no lumps.
- Mix 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of olive oil to this and mix till it forms a thick paste.
- Apply this to your hair and leave it on for 30 minutes. Wash and rinse as usual.
3. Banana-Avocado Hair Pack:
Bananas are an extremely important source of potassium, natural oils, vitamins and carbohydrates that nourish and strengthen your scalp. Additionally, avocados are rich in omega 3 fatty acids that can condition your hair to improve hair quality and texture.
Here is how you can make Banana-Avocado mask:
- Mix 1 ripe banana and 1 ripe avocado in a bowl by smashing them properly.
- To this mixture add 1 tablespoon of wheat germ oil and 1 tablespoon of rose oil and mix it well.
- Apply the mixture to your hair for 20 minutes and wash as usual.
4. Egg Yolk-Honey-Almond Oil Hair Pack:

Egg in the pack obviously provides the much needed protein supply to your hair whereas honey conditions your hair and helps to seal in the moisture. The almond oil in this mixture will give your hair the much needed nutrition from fatty acids present in it that naturally soften your hair.
Here is how you make Egg Yolk-Honey-Almond Oil Hair Pack:
- Mix 1 egg yolk, 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of almond oil in a bowl and mix well.
- Apply this mixture to your hair for 15-20 minutes and then wash as usual.
5. Coconut Milk Treatment:

For hair that is easily damaged, coconut milk can act as your saviour. Not only is the milk packed with fatty acids that provide extreme nourishment to your hair. It helps to fill in damaged protein spots and tackles dandruff effectively while promoting hair growth.
Here is how you can use Coconut Milk for your hair:
- Heat 3 tablespoons of coconut milk in a bowl over a flame until it's warm.
- Massage this warm coconut milk into your scalp so your roots receive the nutrients from it.
- Wrap your hair in a towel and leave this mask overnight.
- Shampoo and condition the next day and repeat this process twice a week for best results.
