Debalina Mukherjee
A smile can practically make your day better. Yet, most times, our lips are the one part of our skincare that we end up ignoring. As a result, we are left with chapped, dull and lifeless lips. However, here’s a thing that could add just enough zinger to your lips and make your smile brighter- a lip tint.
The market is flooded with these lip stains that give your lips the natural pinkish-red we all so desire. However, in any case, you don’t want to purchase them, then get ready to bring out the DIY queen in you and learn to make these tints at home. Given below, we have mentioned a few ways you can rock a casual red lip with natural lip tint made at home.
How To Make Lip Tint At Home?
The process to make a lip tint at home can be done by getting fruits and vegetables that are bright red, like beetroot or strawberries. If you don’t have those, you can also make one using red food colouring or some red eyeshadow. Let’s discover all the different types below:
Using Beetroot:
Beetroots can exfoliate your lips, getting rid of dead skin cells and making way for new ones acting as one of the best lip scrubs. It also has bleaching properties to lighten dark lips. The pigment that gives beetroot its distinct pinkish-red colour is called betalains, which have made beetroots a natural food dye in the food industry. You can use this pigment to give colour to your lips by following this procedure.
Process:
- Grate ½ cup of grated beetroot and squeeze out its juice using a muslin cloth (or any cloth that is soft and quite sheer).
- Then add ½ teaspoon of beeswax, 1 teaspoon of olive oil and a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil (optional, but this will add a good fragrance to your balm).
- Heat this mixture on a low flame till the beeswax melts and everything is easily combined.
- Then, store the mixture in an airtight container and let it cool in a refrigerator.
- You can now apply this mixture for soft, smooth and delectable lips.
Using Berries:
Berries not only impart a rich colour to your cosmetics but also have extreme moisturising properties. They also work as antioxidants, protecting the gentle skin on the lips from free radical damage. Furthermore, they can also be anti-ageing by retaining the hydration in your lips. Also, you can use any berries you want and try to achieve different colours. For instance, you can use strawberry for a light red; mix strawberry and blackberry for a darker red and use blueberry for a nice reddish-purple. Here’s how you can make a natural lip tint DIY using berries
Process :
Mash 3-4 berries of your choice and extract the pure juice from them.
Then, add a little bit of vaseline or olive oil to get additional hydration and to prolong the shelf life of this natural tint.
Store the mixture in an airtight container and let it solidify, post which you can use the mix whenever you fancy.
Using Food Colouring Or Eyeshadow:
Another supreme DIY to make your lips naturally colourful is to use food colouring. This is a brilliant trick to make a natural at-home lip tint. Both these ways may not necessarily be natural but work effectively well to add some shade and shine to your lips.
Process 1:
Add some drops of food colouring (preferably red) to a tablespoon of aloe vera gel.
Mix a capsule of Vitamin E to it for extra preservation.
You can apply this directly on your lips or let the pigment solidify in the refrigerator.
Process 2:
Another method is to mix a red eyeshadow (or any colour of your choice) in some vaseline or aloe vera (if you want a matte, dried out effect) and apply that on your lips.
