How Do We Conceal Different Areas Of Our Face Correctly?

Aayushi Mehra

The one makeup enthusiasts will recommend you not to skip is undeniably concealers. No one likes dark circles especially not when you are ready with a full face of glam. So, the one product that helps you hide your little imperfections and give your face an even finish has to be included in your makeup routine without a doubt. But the problem is, most people ignore the right way to apply the concealer and that can cause your eyes to look either too bright or too dull. So here is how to apply concealer on your face the right way.

Do’s And Don'ts With A Concealer

Before we get on and about the application of a concealer, it is important to remember certain things while picking out a concealer. So here is what you should be looking out for and what you should positively avoid  while making that choice.

Do’s-

  1. Pick a lighter shade than your foundation so that your dark circles are concealed better and the area around your eyes look brighter.
  2. Apply a hydrating cream near your under eye skin before applying your concealer and make sure your foundation is blended well before you layer it on.
  3. Use a stick concealer for severe dark eyes since that has the potential to hide them better.

Don’ts-

  1. Don't use the same concealer for the entire face. Using different kinds of concealer for the whole face adds shadows and highlights to your face and gives your makeup look some dimension and depth.
  2. Don’t forget to set your concealer with a powder and the fact that your concealer also works as an eyeshadow primer thereby ensures that your eyeshadow lays on really well.
  3. Don’t apply your concealer before foundation because your concealer needs to be a tone or two lighter than your initial base.

How To Use Concealer For Your Under Eyes?

Dark circles are a common problem that usually occur due to lack of sleep or stress. The agenda with hiding dark circles is that you don’t want people to see you with potentially darker eyes while the rest of your face is even toned. So here is how you can conceal them:

  1. Apply a hydrating cream on your under eyes and massage it carefully. Blend your foundation completely atop this.
  2. If your under eyes are severe, you can start by applying a color corrector underneath them (preferably an orange or a red one) to tone out some of the darkness.
  3. Now apply some concealer on the inner corner of your under eye and then some in a slant line on the outer edge. Blend these two using a brush or a beauty sponge.
  4. The slant outer edge will create the illusion of a raised eye giving your eyes some definition.

How To Apply Concealer Around Your Mouth?

The one thing a lot of us have is hyperpigmentation around the mouth. So concealing around the mouth in order to have an even toned look is equally important. Here is how you do that:

  1. Once you have blended your foundation completely, apply certain concealer dots around your mouth by choosing a lighter shade of concealer.
  2. If your hyperpigmentation is too severe, don’t forget to color correct underneath it. Then blend these dots carefully by gentle dabbing motion using a beauty blend or a brush.
  3. Don’t use stretching motion since that will move your foundation or corrector base around messing with your whole look.
  4. You can also apply a concealer underneath your lipstick if you want to add a lighter shade of the lipstick and have brown lips or if you don’t want your lipstick to fade into the fine lines of your lips.

How To Put On Concealer Around Your Brows?

Sculpting your brows can really give your face some definition and enhance the sharpness around your eyes. You can achieve this by carefully concealing the area around your brows.

  1. Complete filling in your brows first. Then take a concealer of a lighter shade and squeeze some of it onto a flat tip brush.
  2. Apply this concealer around your brows in a flat line covering the entire outline of them. Then blend the concealer using a brush down towards your eyelids.
  3. Proceed to apply concealer on top of your brows to define the arch and add definition to your look.

How Do You Use Concealer To Hide Pimples?

The most well known and widely used job of a concealer is to hide pimples, blemishes and dark spots. The process to hide pimples, blemishes and dark spots using your concealer is easy and a neat trick that you never know when you might find it useful. So here is how to achieve that ordeal.

  1. Blend your foundation well. Then proceed to use a brush dipped in concealer to mark small spots around your face that have blemish or pimple marks on them.
  2. Use a beauty blender or the same brush to blend these spots well until they are completely the same color as your foundation or don’t appear as evident on our skin.
  3. Remember, that if your spots are too evident or intensely pigmented, you can always go over them with a color corrector before you layer on your foundation.

Concealers are easy to use and give your face an even whole canvas to work on. They make your face look pretty, even toned and lighten up your dull skin. So here we are hoping that you have learnt this art of concealing and use it the next time you want to look glamorous.
