How to Get Rid of Stubborn Blackheads

Have you ever noticed those little black dots in and around the nose area? They might look like dark freckles but they are ugly, rigid blackheads that are very difficult to eliminate. Blackheads are a result of clogged pores. When pores get stuffed with oil and dirt, they are clogged or closed, which in turn traps oil and dirt to form blackheads.

Blackheads are dark in color because when clogged pores with oil and dirt come into contact with air, they get oxidized and turn black. That’s why they are visible even from afar. It is difficult to remove blackheads and prevent them from coming back, but it is possible to get rid of them with these simple tips and tricks.

How to remove blackheads

1. Use pore strips

Pore strips are thin, small strips that temporarily remove the first layer of your skin. With that top layer, it strips off the dead skin cells, oil and dirt that cause blackheads. As the top layer of the skin is always full of dead skin cells, pore strips help strip it and bring new cells to the surface. However, it may only give a temporary result as oil production can’t be controlled by it.

2. Exfoliate the skin

Everybody has heard of the term, scrubbing. It refers to scrubbing the dead skin cells off the face in order to bring new cells to the surface. However, traditional exfoliators with chunky textures are not good for sensitive or acne-prone skin as they are very harsh on the face and may lead to inflammation and redness.

However, better exfoliators are available in the market like the AHAs and BHAs, which gently remove blackheads and dead skin layer and makes the skin clean and ready for skincare products to penetrate into it.

3. Apply clay mask

Clay masks are very gentle on skin. It removes the excess sebum and oil from the pores and cleans the dirt trapped inside them. Clay masks have been used by women since ancient times and are great for removing stubborn blackheads.

4. Apply charcoal mask

Charcoal is one of the best exfoliants and a detoxifier. It sucks out the rigid dirt and oil trapped inside the deep pores and cleans the skin by removing the dead skin cells actively. It removes other impurities on the skin as well, like pollutants, sebum, makeup residue, etc.

How to prevent blackheads from coming back

1. Double cleanse the face

As we know that blackheads are nothing but dirt, oil and impurities that are trapped within the pores, it is very important to keep the face clean and prevent the formation of blackheads. For this, make sure that you double cleanse your face. First, go for a mild cleanser to remove any makeup at night or skincare products’ residue in the morning. Then, wash it again with a gel cleanser.

2. Do not use multiple products all at once

Using multiple products all at once will only result in making the skin texture worse as the skin cannot process the reactions to different products at the same time. It will exacerbate acne and increase oil production in the skin, resulting in blackheads.

3. Remove your makeup before sleeping

To avoid getting blackheads, the easiest step to follow is to remove your makeup before going to bed. Sleeping with any makeup on is the worst thing you can do to your skin. Never sleep with the chemical, oily, mattifying or harsh ingredients that makeup has, no matter how tired you are or how expensive your makeup is.
