Making your own perfume will save money and give you the customized fragrance of your choice, as you can blend essential oils with fragrances and modify them to fit your style and personality.

So, read on to know how to make perfume at home, the types of DIY perfumes, and tips to increase their shelf life.

How to Make Perfume at Home Naturally?

You can create many perfumes at home with a few essential oils and the correct base components. You can use essential oils or flowers for the natural fragrance of the perfume.

For making this perfume, you will need a few ingredients, such as carrier oil, coconut oil, or almond oil, which is used to dilute the essential oil. The next ingredient you will need is any essential oil of your choice, a cold-pressed, concentrated extract of different aromatic plants.  You will also need a tiny funnel, a coffee filter, and two clean glass bottles. Here's how to make it at home:

  • First, you must fill one glass bottle with your favorite carrier oil. Add six drops of rose essential oil for the base note, ten drops of sweet orange for the middle, and nine drops of lavender essential oil for the top notes.
  • You can then pour in the alcohol, such as vodka.
  • In the third step, you have to allow the essential oils to sit by closing the lid and letting your perfume rest for at least 48 hours.
  • Once you get the desired intensity, which means you are satisfied with the strength of the aroma, you should then add the water and shake the bottle for 1 minute.
  • Finally, using the filter and funnel, you can transfer the perfume to the other bottle.

You can even customize the essential oils. For example, you can make jasmine perfume or lavender perfume. You may follow the same process mentioned above and substitute the essential oils with any other fragrance.

Types of Scents You Can Make

There are different types of perfumes, which you can easily create at home as per your requirements and preference.

Solid Perfumes

Solid perfume is simple to produce, convenient, and will not leak. You don't have to worry about spilling it since it's solid, and you can also carry it on airplanes.

It is created using beeswax. A two-part carrier oil to one-part beeswax ratio provides the appropriate consistency — solid but not too firm. We can even store it in a lip balm container and apply it.

To make this organic perfume, you have to follow the following steps:

  • Melt the wax and jojoba or almond oil together. You have to put this mixture on heat for a few seconds.
  • Then, remove the mixture from the heat after it has liquefied.
  • You should then add the essential oils and mix well.
  • You may use a spoon, toothpick, or straw. You can use anything disposable or washable.
  • The next step is to fill the final container with the liquid. Place the container's lid on top, but leave it ajar. This will assist in minimizing condensation inside the container while also reducing the possibility of bacterial contamination of the goods.
  • Finally, you have to rub your finger over the perfume to liquefy it, just like we do while applying lip balm and apply it.

Botanical-infused Perfume

The herbs and flowers used for botanical-infused perfumes create a mild, sweet yet mesmerising fragrance. To make homemade perfume, you must use fresh flowers picked right from the garden.

You can also get fresh flowers from the supermarket, but because this scent will be sprayed directly into your skin, you should get organic flowers if possible.

Here's how to make perfume at home with flowers:

  • You have to begin by carefully cleaning the flower petals with water to remove any dirt.
  • Next, you need to soak the blossoms in a cheesecloth-lined basin overnight, covered with a lid.
  • You have to then squeeze the flower pouch over a saucepan,
  • Next, you can extract the floral-scented water and simmer over low heat until you have about a teaspoon of the liquid remaining.
  • You will have to fill a bottle with cold water and seal it.
  • Finally, you have to allow it to sit overnight.

Body Spray and Splash Perfume

Body sprays include a subtle fragrance and hydrating elements, making them great for a refreshing scent on hot days. You can create the best natural perfumes by adding your favourite fragrance with aloe vera and glycerine. You can also create lemonade perfume by infusing lemon with sandalwood and lavender. You can use orange, blossom water, or aloe vera for body splash and combine it with your favourite essential oil. This body splash will also act as a hydrating serum for your skin and you can use it whenever required.

Cologne

Citrus or orange fragrance can be used for cologne, which can be genuinely revitalising. You can get an organic lemon zest, grapefruit, essential oil of your choice, and vodka.

To make cologne, you have to:

  • Combine citrus zests and vodka in a glass jar until the liquid is at least 1" higher than the peel zest.
  • Cap securely and shake once or twice daily.
  • After 2-6 weeks, you have to then strain off the citrus peels and fill a glass container with a misting top with the resultant fragrance.
  • For each spoonful of finished cologne, you will add two drops of essential oil.
  • You can use extra essential oil for a stronger fragrance

Body Oil Perfume

We have to simply blend our preferred carrier oil with our preferred essential oil aroma. Essential oils must be diluted before applying to the skin. We must remember to use between 6 and 10 drops of our essential oil combination for every tablespoon of carrier oil. We can create perfumed coconut body oil or vanilla, or clove body oil.

How do You Preserve Perfumes so They Last Longer?

  • Before beginning your project, you must get glass bottles with airtight lids and spray dispensers.
  • For your fragrances, you should always use 100-proof vodka or only pure alcohol since the best effect of the perfume is gained with a larger quantity of alcohol.
  • It is better to make your perfume in glass jars and bottles since essential oils tend to decompose the plastic, destroying the entire mixture of carrier and essential oil.
  • The efficacy of your perfume depends on the mix of alcohol, essential oils, and drinking water. So, you have to ensure that you measure carefully before putting in anything, as anything less, or something not enough, might affect the whole scent of your perfume.

With the above simple yet effective processes, you can get your most desired scent that will not only become your unique fragrance but will also be inexpensive, organic, and eco-friendly.
