Make your Own Hair Growth Oil at Home

1. Curry leaves in coconut oil:

Curry leaves are known to reduce premature greying of hair. This is very effective in treating alopecia and greying of hair. It also helps hair retain moisture. Upon regular use, one can get thick, black hair. 

How to Prepare - 

  1. Keep a fistful of curry leaves in sunlight in order to dry them out
  2. Boil them in 100 ml of coconut oil. 
  3. After cooling, filter the mixture and use it for massaging the scalp. 

 

2. Camphor, castor oil and olive oil: 

Camphor has antiseptic and antioxidant properties which are good for skin and scalp. No wonder then that it is used extensively in ayurvedic medicines. It controls hair fall and dandruff. 

How to Prepare -

  • It can be prepared by mixing equal parts of camphor, castor oil and olive oil. The mixture needs to be heated and massaged on the scalp. 

 

3. Kalonji seeds in olive or coconut oil: 

Kalonji seeds contain vitamins and minerals like zinc, iron and potassium. It also has fatty acids. All its constituents together ensure problem-free, healthy hair. 

How to Prepare - 

  • This oil can be prepared by grinding a tablespoon of kalonji seeds and adding the powder to a bottle of olive or coconut oil. It is to be used after two or three days. Generally, it is heated before massaging on the scalp.

 

4. Amla in olive oil:

Amla is known to be rich in vitamin C. It makes hair black and lustrous. Hair becomes less prone to breakage and it remains hydrated. 

How to Prepare - 

  • This oil can be easily prepared by boiling dried amla in olive oil and allowing the amla to settle in the oil for a week. It can then be used twice a week for best results.

 

5. Suspension of neem in almond oil: 

Neem has anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties and it promotes healthy, dandruff-free hair. It is also rich in fatty acids and antioxidants. 

How to Prepare -

  • This mixture can be prepared by boiling dried neem leaves in almond oil. The mixture is left to settle for a week before use. The oil turns green indicating that the leaves have been well-infused in the oil. One can then filter it and use.

 

6. Hibiscus flowers in coconut oil: 

Hibiscus flowers are known to promote hair density and growth. It also delays greying of hair. 

How to Prepare -

  • It can be prepared by drying hibiscus flowers in the sun. Coconut oil is heated separately and then the dried flowers are added to it. The mixture is heated in a low flame and allowed to cool. It can then be applied to hair and washed off with a gentle shampoo. Heat it every time it is to be used.

 

7. Onion in lavender oil:

Onions are known to be rich in sulphur and they can be effective for hair fall control. Blending it into lavender oil makes it rich in antibacterial and cleansing  properties. 

How to Prepare -

  • The concoction is prepared by extracting the juice of three onions and mixing it in equal parts with coconut oil. It is to be massaged on the scalp and allowed to settle for an hour before it is shampooed away. One needs to ensure that the pungent odor of onion does not stick to hair.

 

8. Peppermint oil & grapeseed carrier oil:

Peppermint oil increases blood flow to the scalp and strengthens hair follicles. It becomes more effective when combined with grapeseed carrier oil. 

How to Prepare - 

  • The concoction is to be prepared by mixing peppermint oil with grapeseed oil in the ratio of 1:4. This mixture is to be massaged gently on the scalp and left for about five minutes before rinsing it off with shampoo.
