Honey has inevitably but not all too surprisingly found enormous use in skincare. So as much as we all have known about the benefits of honey for our health, its use in the skincare industry hasn’t still got its due. Apart from the fact that it is a humectant or moisture protector, honey is a 100% natural product that softens and brightens the skin. The golden elixir is used in a variety of face masks, as a cleanser or even as an exfoliator. Thus, mentioned below are some of the benefits of honey for your face and skin and some of the ways you can use it in your skincare.
Benefits Of Applying Honey On Your Face
Honey has been known for centuries as a respected ingredient, the use of which spans beyond the confines of the kitchen. The sweet substance produced by plant matter, enzyme activity, live bacteria and of course bees has thus found its use to cure many skin care woes. Let’s take a look at some of them.
1. For Acne:

Honey has antimicrobial properties which makes it efficient against certain types of acne. Raw honey precisely helps to balance the bacteria on your skin and is also known to speed up the healing process of your skin cells. It has a high concentration of glucuronic acid which gets converted to glucose oxidase and then on the skin to hydrogen peroxide.
This works similar to benzoyl peroxide and helps to curb acne. Additionally, honey has other ingredients like peptides, amino acids, vitamin B and fatty acids all of which have a soothing effect and help to reduce redness of the skin.

2. For Cuts And Burns:

Honey on wounds is an effective remedy- tried and tested. The aforementioned soothing ingredients work actively to “calm down” the burn and reduce redness around it. Furthermore, the sugar naturally present in honey has the effect of drawing water out of damaged tissues reducing the swelling.
This osmotic process also encourages the flow of lymph to heal the wound. It is also antibacterial since the sugar in honey can help draw out water from the bacterial cells thereby stopping them from multiplying.
3. For Eczema And Psoriasis:

Eczema and psoriasis are both conditions that cause itchy, red patches on the skin. Honey therefore works in these conditions because it tends to moisturise the skin and boost the immune system's ability to curb the outbreak. It can also increase the blood flow to the areas of inflammation or dryness and help to hydrate the skin.
4. For Skin Issues:

Honey is extremely effective in cleaning pores, fading acne scars and exfoliating the skin because it is a natural antibacterial that helps get rid of the gunk accumulated in our pores thereby preventing these skin conditions. It can also help lighten the skin thereby curing any signs of hyperpigmentation or the stubborn pimple marks.
And finally, honey is undoubtedly excellent to hydrate your skin. It helps in preserving the natural moisture of the skin creating a barrier that seals off your skin from the external aggregators. This is the reason why honey is quite in demand in so many skincare products especially moisturisers.
How To Use Honey For Your Face?
Traditionally, because of its benefits, honey was used in skincare as a solution for a lot of the DIY recipes. Here are the easy ways you too can use honey for the same. A lot of face masks revolve around honey but simply applying raw honey to your face for 15 minutes or so works too. Apart from that, you can try:
1. Lemon and Honey Face Mask:

- Combine two to three tablespoons of honey with half a lemon squeezed and apply this on your face.
- You can also add this mix in other powders like multani mitti or volcanic ash clay to form a mud mask which has exfoliating and brightening properties.
2. Honey And Baking Soda:

- Anytime you can to get rid of clogged pores or exfoliate your skin, combine 2 tablespoons of honey with 1 ½ tablespoons of baking soda and rub it over your affected areas.
- The mixture gives an exfoliating effect that can be beneficial to get clear looking skin by getting rid of the dead and dry skin cells on the surface of your skin.
3. Honey And Egg Whites

- Honey is also extremely effective to get rid of blackheads.
- To make this, use the egg white from one egg and add some honey to it.
- Apply this mixture over your nose and cover it with a dry napkin.
