Shaving tips for women

Payal Bhattacharya

Now that your hairs have started growing out, you might not find them that attractive. Of course, body hair is a natural thing and there’s nothing to be ashamed of. However, each woman's hair growth rate is different. If you have naturally thicker hair with a high growth rate, then it might interfere in your social life. Basically you need to forget about cute, sleeveless tops and mini skirts! Now, who would be okay with that? Now, shaving can be a pretty confusing affair to those who are just starting out. Today, we have brought these useful shaving tips for women to help you.But first, there are a lot of myths about shaving. However, most of them don't hold any juice. Lets take a look at them one by one.

Myth1: Shaving makes your hair grow back thicker and darker

Ans- We say, rubbish! Your hair growth rate is based on your genetic and hormonal profile. The blunt ends of the hair shaft actually makes it look thicker when in reality, it is perfectly natural to grow hair at a certain rate.

Myth2: Shaving makes your skin dry

Ans- Shaving actually helps rub off the excess layer of dead skin cells from your skin thus making it smoother.

Myth3: Newer blades cause more cuts and nicks

Ans- That’s the most ridiculous thing ever! Reality is a blunt razor blade( approx after 5-10 times of use) is more likely to give you the “ouch” moments rather than a new one.

Myth4: Mens razors are better

Ans- While you can definitely shave with men’s razors, womens razors are better suited to hug around the curves and have a better grip.

Myth5: The only way to get smooth skin is to visit the salon

Ans- That one’s a big fat lie! There are lots of hair removal options and all of them are pretty much effective. Your hair removal procedure largely depends on your preferences.

Here’s how to shave body hair for females

Simply follow these tips for flawless hair removal everyday, everytime!

Step1: Moisturize well

Dry shaving increases the chances of skin irritation, especially if your skin is sensitive. Experts recommend wetting your skin for a good few minutes before starting shaving, preferably warm water. This softens your hair and makes it easier to remove.

 Step2: Exfoliate

We recommend getting some exfoliation before going all-in with the razor. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells from the skin surface and ensures better reach. Nothing fancy, you can use a body scrub or simply work the skin a little bit with the loofah!

Step 3: Use a shaving gel

Again, stay away from dry shaving. After exfoliating, apply a generous amount of shaving gel on the skin. This helps prevent moisture loss and helps in smooth shaving. This is because pulling on hair on dry skin can lead to unruly bumps and skin irritation. Also, shaving gel helps you determine areas where you have already shaved and where it still needs to be done. This way, you don't miss any spot.

Step4: Choose your razor carefully

Remember most razor blades last between five and 10 shaves. No matter if you are using a reusable or disposable razor, they need to be sharp and precise every time you shave. A pro-tip here: If your blade feels like it's tugging on your skin, it's time to replace it! After you are done, always rinse and air dry your razor.

Step5: Shave right!

There is no one-size-fits-all technique here. It all depends on what part of your body you are shaving.

  • For legs, shave from the ankles up
  • For your underarms, you can shave from any directions
  • For the bikini area, you need to be extra careful. First, shave in the direction of the hair growth. Then, for a closer shave, pull in the opposite direction.

Step6: Don't forget your moisturizer

Now is the time to bring in that mild smelling hydrating moisturizer. This is a step that many women skip. However, moisturization is necessary to keep your skin healthy and hydrated.

Women’s shaving tips to keep in mind:

  • Don't forget hydration both before and after shaving. In fact, moisturizer should be an essential part of your post shaving routine.
  • NEVER dry shave! Trust us, it only makes things difficult for you and your skin!
  • Try shaving near the end of your bath time. That way, your hair remains soft and moist and can be easily removed.
  • Use warm water. However, if you prefer very hot showers, then we advise you to run some cold water over your skin before shaving. This helps bring down the temperature.
  • Don't use soap! Soaps are drying and hence might have the opposite effect of drying out your skin.
  • Make sure to rinse your skin with cold water post-shaving. This helps close down the pores that were opened due to the constant warm water. You can also apply some hydrating lotion on your skin.
  • Post-shaving, your skin becomes more prone to heat and UV rays. We recommend using sunscreen at all times.
  • DO NOT USE old razors! The blunt ends tug at your skin and cause irritation.

Conclusion

Shaving is not a necessity. However, sometimes you just need your skin to look smooth and beautiful especially if you are attending any events. Shaving is an easy and effortless way to get rid of your hair fast. With the help of the above shaving tips for women, we are sure you will ace it! No more worrying about exposing your underarms. Just a few minutes and you will get silky smooth skin every time, everyday!
