Homemade Hair Mask for Frizzy Hair

Debalina Mukherjee

Do you know the bane of every curly-haired person’s existence? Do you know the one thing that can set the mood for the rest of our day? A shared experience so intense that generation after generation has looked for solutions for it? Frizz. Our worst enemy.

While everyone reacts differently to different ingredients, hair masks are less likely to cause allergic reactions or worsen your frizz. Frizz is a direct result of dry and damaged hair. The mix of split ends, friction, and general pollution lead to unhealthy hair. Let us checkout some DIY Hair Masks.

The Very Indian Method of Oil

In India, the age-old solution, the truly golden answer to all hair damage, has always been oil. From Almond Oil to the beloved Coconut Oil, oil has been used for hair in India for generations. It acts as a very

basic hair mask, helping to get rid of dryness and provide some much-needed nourishment for the scalp. Infact at Purplle, we have multiple oil-based products in our hair care category.

There are tons and tons of DIY Hair Masks that you can use. We’ve collated our favorite tried-and-tested formulas for you!

5 DIY Hair Masks for Frizzy Hair

1. Vitamin-E:

If you’ve been dealing with frizzy hair for a while now, then coconut oil is a staple in your household. While coconut oil on its own is great, adding a dash of Vitamin E oil gives you a whole new level of nourishment. Get all that Coconut-E goodness, as I like to say.

How to Use:

  • Mix four parts coconut oil to one-part Vitamin E oil.
  • Apply it to the length of your hair as well as your scalp forty minutes before you wash your hair. You can do this once or twice a week.
  • Watch your hair receive the deep nourishment and care that it deserves.

2. Coconut Milk

Coconut is the superior fruit. Another coconut by-product makes it to the list. The perfect mix of moisturizing and nourishing, coconut milk is ideal for those looking for long, smooth, and shiny curls.

How to Use:

  • Heat 2-3 tablespoons of coconut milk. Don’t be afraid to mix up some more in case it falls short.
  • Apply it to your hair and scalp and let it sit for half an hour. Twice a week is more than enough!
  • For added benefits, Shampoo and Condition thoroughly.

3. Lemon and Honey

This delicious mixture is an excellent addition to tea, but it also acts as an all-natural hair mask. The lemon ensures that your hair is getting all the Vitamin C it needs for growth, and you might also get some subtle highlights from the natural bleaching agent. The mixture also removes dirt from the hair shaft, leaving your hair less damaged and bouncier.

How to Use:

  • Mix two tablespoons of honey with two tablespoons of lemon and a cup of water.
  • Apply the mixture to freshly washed and conditioned hair. Let it sit for 10 minutes. This hair mask should be used once in two weeks for healthy hair.
  • Rinse out the mask with lukewarm water and shampoo.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

Personally, I'm not too fond of the smell, but it quickly mellows out. The apple cider vinegar regulates the pH levels of the hair. It also helps close down open cuticles, helping your hair retain moisture.

How to Use:

  • Mix two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar with two cups of water.
  • After washing your hair, rinse it with the apple cider vinegar mixture. You can apply this hair mask once every week.
  • Let it sit for ten minutes, rinse, and then use a conditioner.

5. Aloe Vera

No list for skincare or haircare is complete without aloe vera. Aloe Vera is famously known for its hydrating qualities and dry and damaged hair. This is the Holy Grail of Natural Ingredients.

How to Use:

  • Add a quarter cup of Aloe Vera to a quarter cup of carrier oil. Carrier oils are essential oils in a diluted state. These help in making your hair mask effective and scalp-and-hair-friendly. We recommend Jojoba Oil, Rosehip Oil, or Grape Seed Oil.
  • Please apply to your hair and scalp and let it sit for half an hour. You can easily use this mask twice a week.
  • Rinse off your hair and wash with shampoo and conditioner.

Hair masks are a great way to treat your hair and yourself. Along with them, there’s plenty of tiny habits you can pick up to help fight that frizz.

  1. Choose satin pillows over plain cotton.
  2. Crank down the heat when washing your hair. Heat and frizz are partners-in-crime. This includes hot showers as well as heat damage from blow-drying or straightening.
  3. Try not to towel dry your hair all the way through. Instead, it’s best to dry it and let it air dry after partially.
  4. Choose your products carefully. What works for you might not work for everyone else.

With new habits, and a few DIY Hair Mask ideas, you’re ready and armed against the Frizz; and, subsequently, the world!
