There's nothing worse than oily strands ruining your hairstyle so we've come up with some easy hair care tips to help you keep greasy locks under control.
Oily or greasy hair is, unfortunately, something that most of us have experienced, either occasionally or every day, and can be caused by hair product overload or the simple fact that your hair type is prone to oily strands. So to help you get your lanky locks sorted, we’ve put together our best hair care tips for oily hair.

If you have oily hair you are both lucky and unlucky. Lucky because you will grey later and unlucky because, with an oily scalp, you will need to take extra care of your hair. So, follow the tips in this article to know more about taking care of your oily hair.

Types of shampoos and conditioners

When washing, use a shampoo that's designed for daily use (but you don't have to use it daily) because it's specifically made to be gentle and won’t strip the oil as harshly as other stronger shampoos. Be sure to wash it thoroughly and then do a final rinse in cold or lukewarm water.

After shampooing, rinse your hair thoroughly so that no residue is left behind which can otherwise make your hair to attract more dirt and oil. Mantra is to rinse, rinse, and rinse for at least 30 seconds so that no shampoo or conditioner residue is left behind. In many cases, the actual problem arises due to not rinsing your hair properly after shampooing.

When it comes to conditioner, apply a light-weight wash out conditioner to your ends only or consider skipping the conditioner and just use a spray-in detangler instead. Never apply the conditioner to your roots or you’ll risk making your hair look and feel greasier.

All about hair washing

Remember to shampoo in small, circular movements; don't forget to target dirt collecting areas such as the nape of your neck.

Massaging your scalp will increase blood flow which encourages growth and will stimulate your hair's natural oils.

Touch, brush or comb your hair as sparingly as possible if you have oily hair tendencies. The more you touch, brush, or even style your hair, the more your scalp will produce and spread grease and that will make your hair oily.

No. of washes per week

Don’t wash your hair every day! When you wash your hair, you remove the natural moisturizing oils. Everyday washing of hair can lead your oil glands to go over-drive and produce more moisturizing oils to compensate for oil loss, making your hair greasy and sticky with oil. Wash your hair with a good oil removal shampoo not more than three times a week to get rid of oil from your hair.
