Eyebrows On Fleek- A Guide To Applying Eyebrow Pencils

Sneha Singh

Although eyebrows may seem like a minuscule part of the face, they are the key to finishing your look. From outlining your face to adding definition to your eyes, slick, completely prepped eyebrows can truly represent the deciding moment of your look. Perhaps that’s the reason why the industry has come up with so many different products for eyebrows. However, the most classic and widely used of them all remains the eyebrow pencil. So, whether you have brows too light to see, are sparse, over-plucked or just need a little definition, here is your guide to know how to apply eyebrow pencil for beginners.

How To Use Eyebrow Pencils?

In addition to applying tint, texture and shape, it is also important to learn the technique to achieve the right brows. This process starts with understanding how different shapes of brows look on different faces. So, here are the steps to achieve the right eyebrow look:

1. Finding Your Eyebrow Shape:

Find where your eyebrows should begin. To do this, hold the pencil vertical against the side of your nose to see where the point should begin and then form a 45-degree angle to know where it should end. Any hair extending outside these points should be trimmed immediately since these are the start and endpoints of your eyebrows. After this, the most important step is to figure out the arch point of your eyebrows. This point is the spot where the pencil lines up perfectly with the outer edge of your iris. Then, hold the pencil horizontally across the top of your brows to check that they are about the same height.

2. Choosing The Ideal Type:

Choosing The Ideal Eyebrow Type

Now, based on your eyebrow and face shape let’s see which type of eyebrows fit you the best. Here is how you can figure that out:

  • If you have a round face, a sharp high angle will open your eyes and elongate the face, thereby balancing your look.
  • For those with an oval shape, try extending the length of your eyebrows from the end. Don’t fill in too much or make them too dark.
  • A heart-shaped face can be a challenge- but remember to not be too shaped or too angled. Instead, go for a lower, straighter arc that follows your brow bone.
  • To balance your jaws when you have a square shape, go for full, slightly darker brows.
  • Furthermore, if your eyes are wide-set, keep eyebrows fairly natural and when they are closed together extend your brows with a wide, long arch.

3. Choosing The Right Shade For Your Brows:

With so many different colours, it is important to know which shade of eyebrow works best for your skin and face type. Here is how different shades work for different brows:

  • Blondes should try light taupe or a pencil one or two shades darker than their original hair colour.
  • Brunettes should go for a colour that is one or two shades lighter than your hair colour. Trying black or darker shades may give you evil or angry-looking brows.
  • Redheads should try taupe or medium brown shade. Grey-haired ones should go for light brown or taupe instead of another shade of grey.

4. Filling In Your Brows:

Start this by filling your brows with light, upward strokes of the pencil, especially focusing it on sparse areas to resemble your natural hair. The pigment should be concentrated on the arch and tail of the eyebrow. However, the thicker area that is closer to your nose should be lighter and a little less dense. Post that, if you still find your eyebrows at different heights, use the pencil to add hair to the top of the lower brow. Then using a spoolie brush, blend the colour and brush it through your brow from front to tail. In the end, seal all of this using brow wax or gel.
