Washing our hands is something that we do on a daily basis considering the amount of times they touch different surfaces and are exposed to a host of chemicals and toxins. But what about washing our face? Most of us don’t wash our face more than once or twice a day and unknowingly, that can create a host of skin problems like acne, blackheads and even oily skin. How Many Times Should I Wash My Face A Day?

Different people have different ways of thinking about how face wash impacts their skin and skin care habits. But based on what dermatologists say, here is how many times you must use face wash in a day.

1. Wash Your Face Twice A Day:

The idea is to wash your face once in the morning and once at night to allow your face to be free of any and all bacterial buildup. Your face is exposed to different kinds of impurities throughout the day so washing it at night makes a lot of sense. But, bacteria also builds up on your skin at night so you need to wash it up in the morning. Also, washing your face in the morning is a good way to wake your skin up and make your face ready for a morning skin care routine.

However, if you have extremely dry or sensitive skin that can be exposed to rinsing off again and again, try washing your face only once at night. In this situation you are taking care of the bacteria, dirt and pollution effects that have accumulated on your skin throughout the day and making sure your face stays clean and without any skin care woes. The top layer of your skin revitalises in the night which is why it is important to keep it clean and not clog it with dirt or anything else.

2. Make Sure You Use The Right Products For Your Skin:

Depending on the different kinds of skin type, face washes or cleansers can change for everyone. Your skin can get dry, rough and even irritated if you keep washing it over and over or go through regressive cleansing action. Therefore, opt for gentle, moisturising cleansers that don’t deprive the skin of its natural moisture content and give a thorough cleaning action. For those who prefer to double cleanse, opt for micellar waters since it gets off the makeup really easily and isn’t too drying on the skin.

3. Use The 20-Second Hand Washing Rule:

We are told to wash our hands for exactly 20 seconds to get rid of the dirt and dust collected on them. Well, why shouldn’t the same apply to our face considering the amount of pollution, dirt and impurities that settles over it. So make sure you have taken care of every spot, nook and corner you can find while cleansing your face. Just start massaging the cleanser in at the top of your face, then gently work your way around to your chin, doing two rotations. Post that use a soft gentle towel to pat your skin dry. Don’t rub the towel around your skin or stretch your skin too much with the said towel and then apply your moisturiser or other skincare products.

4. Double Cleansing Doesn’t Hurt Anyone:

Okay, if you don’t think you are absolutely sure of how well you have cleansed your face, there is no harm in going again. You can also wash your face more than twice a day, especially in summers or after some exercise when your face feels dirty and sweaty. Just make sure to be gentle on your skin while massaging the products or even choosing gentle products to begin with.

Face washes or cleansers are essentially the first skincare items that touch your skin after you have removed your makeup, so they need to be of the right kind and not harm your skin in any fashion. Choose organic, non-comedogenic, gentle and moisturising cleansers or face washes to make sure your face gets rightly clean before you start your skincare.
