Get The Onam Special Look With These Easy Steps
Niharika Horo
Onam is around the corner, and we are already feeling the good vibes. Elaborate feasts, folk songs, colourful Pookalam and delicious Sadya, it’s our chance to dress up in our traditional finery.
Looking good on Onam is important like it is for any other festival. If you wish to dress up and ace the look of the traditional Kerala woman, read, and follow our simple routine to get you in the spirit of your Onam special celebrations.
Begin with a Glow!
Prep your skin for the festivities, with a glowing radiance that is hard to miss. Post cleansing your face, apply a rich dollop of a brightening face mask like the Good Vibes Papaya Glow Face Mask. Enriched with fresh Papaya, the mask will lock in the moisture and leave you with a fresh, healthy glow for hours.

The Picture Perfect Base!
Celebrations call for pictures, meeting family, friends and a lot of running around. To make sure your makeup lasts through it all use a long-lasting foundation like the L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24-Hour Foundation. Take a few pumps on your wet beauty blender or fingers and slowly blend into your skin. The formula offers buildable coverage, so you will have a smooth and dewy canvas to work on.

Let your Eyes do the talking!
For a traditional Onam look, it’s all about well-defined mesmerizing eyes. First prime your lids and then sweep a shimmering Gold eyeshadow all over your lids. Add some transitional dark brown colour to the outer crease line and blend the shades for a soft, smokey eye. Our choice would be a neutral eyeshadow palette like the Stay Quirky Be my Wink with warm shades to compliment your monochrome gold white Onam outfit.

To add definition to your eyes, start by drawing a thin line and extend the eyeliner to the outer corner to elongate your eyes. Opt for a thin brush eyeliner like the Maybelline Colossal Bold Eyeliner, to create the perfect smudge-free cat eye look.

No traditional Onam look is complete without a heavy dose of Kajal. Rim your upper eyelid and waterline with an intense black kajal like the NY Bae Long Eye Land Deep Kohl. Smudge it a little with dark brown shadow for a beautiful dove eye effect. Additionally, to add some more drama, apply false eyelashes and add a dash of mascara to blend it all together.

The Blinding Effect!
Warm up your face by using some bronzer to contour and add definition to your face. Add a generous swipe of blush and highlight to tie in the look. Our recommendation would be the Swiss Beauty Blusher Highlighter Palette, which has an ultra-blendable, silky formula that’ll give you the perfect glimmering effect.

Be Pout Perfect!
Top off your look with a warm pink shade like the Purplle Mini Liquid Lipstick in My First Selfie which flatters almost all skin tones and will add a pop of colour to your glowing look.

The final steps would be to drape your Kasavu sari, add fragrant Jasmine flowers and the finishing touch – a red bindi and some Pearl jhumkas and you are absolutely ready to slay the Onam special celebrations like a true blue South Indian goddess.
The Purplle family wishes you and your loved ones a Safe, Happy and Prosperous Onam!
